Reginald (Reg) T. Hayes
Well known and respected as an active Catholic and dedicated volunteer community worker Reg Hayes passed away October 15, 2002.
Following a successful business career he devoted much of his time as a selfless and inspirational leader in numerous projects including Lifelease Housing for seniors, which developed Jubilee Place and Portview Village in St. Catharines.
Reg is survived by his wife, Colleen and their children.
Funeral services were conducted at St. Alfred’s Church in St. Catharines on October 19.






Sr. Aileen Byrnes, R.H.S.J
Sr. Aileen Byrnes, R.H.S.J., died October 11, 2002, less than a month after celebrating her 94th birthday and the 65th anniversary of religious profession. She was the daughter of the late James Byrnes and Ellen Kearns.
She entered the School of Nursing at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario, and graduated in 1930. After graduation she worked at the Kingston Psychiatric Hospital and in 1934 entered the Novitiate of the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph in Kingston.
Sr. Byrnes made her First Profession on January 23, 1937. She then began her career in nursing education as an instructor at the School of Nursing in Kingston and became associate director in 1940.
Shortly thereafter she continued her education at the University of Ottawa and the St. Thomas University in Chatham, New Brunswick.
In 1960 Sr. Aileen was missioned to Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines, as treasurer and chief financial officer.
In 1974 she began work in pastoral care, serving at hospitals in St. Catharines and Cornwall, as well as Bestview Nursing Home in Cornwall.
Her final years were spent at St. Joseph Regional House in Amherstview, Ontario, ministering to the Sisters as pastoral visitor and Eucharistic minister, until she entered the infirmary in 1993. May she rest in peace.
