Theology Courses

The University of St. Michael's College, Faculty of Theology, offers programs leading to a Diploma in Theological Studies, a Diploma in Religious Education and a Master in Religious Education degree through the off-campus site, named Niagara Satellite. Teachers and chaplains of the Niagara Catholic District School Board who are accepted into the Niagara Satellite program are eligible for a Jubilee scholarship sponsored by the Diocese of St. Catharines and the school board.
Contact the Office of Religious Education (905-684-0154) for the application process into the Niagara Satellite program or for a Jubilee scholarship.

Brock Pre-Service Course

Brock University offers a 40-hour program in religious education to candidates in the Faculty of Education who wish to teach in Catholic schools. This course builds on the commitment of the student teacher to his/her faith and helps prepare the new teacher to effectively pass on the faith to the pupils. The program, while not mandatory, is highly valued by Catholic school boards. Faculty of Education candidates may find out additional information about this program by contacting Brock University website www.brocku.ca

OECTA (Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association)

The Niagara Catholic District School Board and the St. Catharines Diocese sponsors OECTA courses, Part I, Part II and Part III, for teachers in religious education. Candidates may take one or all of the courses which ultimately lead to a specialist certificate in religious education, which is recognized for additional qualifications toward grid placement. These courses are offered in the summer and one part during the year. Teachers may inquire about these courses, their duration, location, fees, etc. by contacting Tom Dillon at thomas.dillon@ncdsb.com
